Bitter Medicine: A Graphic Memoir of Mental Illness - Calgary launch
Join Clem Martini, Olivier Martini, and Freehand Books at the Nickle Arts Museum to celebrate the launch of Bitter Medicine: A Graphic Memoir of Mental Illness. The evening will feature a display of artworks by Olivier Martini, a screening of Shattered Dreams, a 1989 documentary written and narrated by Clem Martini, and a reading and Q & A with both authors. There will be wine, snacks, and a chance to win some great art!
When: March 18, 2010, 7 p.m.
Where: The Nickle Arts Museum at the University of Calgary (2500 University Drive NW)
Admission: Free; donations will be accepted on behalf of the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta

Paul Headrick is joining forces with uber-cool Vancouver-based jazz crooner Tea to launch The Doctrine of Affections with a unique, hybrid reading / musical performance that will knock your socks off. The launch will go down as part of the Short Line Reading Series, presented by Memewar Magazine. Don't miss this! In the meantime, you can check out Téa's music here.

A Springtime Short Story Soiree!
Freehand Books and Coach House Books are teaming up to bring you some great short fiction this spring. Join us at Cantos Music Foundation where Alan Reed and Paul Headrick will read from their new collections of short stories, Isobel and Emile and The Doctrine of Affections. The lovely Sam Warwick, author of Sage Island (Brindle & Glass), will read with the two gents, and Ann McWhir, head of the English Department at the University of Calgary, will showcase her musical prowess on the piano.
